Sensei John Billie
Head Instructor
3rd Dan Black Belt in Karate Kobudo Instructor 15 Years of Experience
Sensei John Billie first discovered karate through Brian Greynolds, whose shirt sparked his curiosity and led him to join a class. With over 15 years of dedication to The American Karate System, John has achieved the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt. He has further honed his skills by attending two Tadashi Yamashita seminars and a weapons seminar with the International Matayoshi Kobudo Association. Since 2015, John has shared his passion for karate with students ranging from ages 3 to 50. For him, the dojo is more than just a place to teach—it's a sanctuary to escape the outside world. He is known for his unique approach, teaching specialized drills such as the 13-step wrist lock and nunchaku techniques. An accomplished competitor, John has earned several first-place awards in weapons and kata competitions, along with multiple placements in sparring. His philosophy centers on the idea that karate is a lifelong journey, where practitioners gain skills and knowledge passed down through generations. He proudly represents The American Karate System, an ever-evolving style that stays fresh and innovative. One of John's most memorable moments was attending his first seminar in Ohio, where he faced the challenge of learning a bo kata far beyond his initial skill level. This experience reinforced his commitment to growth and mastery in karate.
His teaching philosophy combines traditional martial arts discipline with the grounding principles found in nature, creating a holistic approach to personal development and self-defense.
